SEAMEO BIOTROP adalah salah satu dari 18 pusat (centres) di bawah SEAMEO (Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization) yang berpusat di Bangkok, Thailand. SEAMEO BIOTROP berdiri pada  tanggal 6 Februari 1968, yang saat ini mempunyai visi “being the centre of excellence in research, training and information provider in the area of tropical biology”. Misi SEAMEO BIOTROP adalah (1) to support biodiversity conservation, (2) to support sustainable development.

Fokus penelitian tahun 2010 adalah :

  1. Masalah lingkungan dan keaneka-ragaman hayati sesuai dengan misi SEAMEO BIOTROP lainnya (biodiversity conservation and sustainable development). Bagaimanakah prediksi dampak lingkungan terhadap pengembangan tanaman, seperti kemungkinan akan muncul masalah seperti invasive alien species, penyakit tanaman, teknologi perbanyakan tanaman, dan sebagainya.
  2. Bioteknologi. Berbagai tantangan dan permasalahan terkait food production, ketahanan pangan, dan lain-lain yang  diharapkan dapat dijawab dari program-program penelitian yang akan dikerjakan secara sistematis dan terintegrasi.
  3. Pengembangan biofuel yang meliputi berbagai aspek, khususnya pada sektor hulu. Hal ini mencakup pembibitan dan budidaya tanaman penghasil biofuel, masalah hama dan penyakit serta model simulasi pertumbuhan tanaman sebagai dasar perencanaan serta alat bantu pengambilan keputusan (decision-support tool).
